Probably a product of Hammond Marshall, Atlanta Georgia but Kraft, Goldschmidt & Kraft (KG&K) of Columbia, SC made almost identical sabers. Regardless of maker, this is a fine example of the classic wood scabbard sword showing great ingenuity for southern manufacturers utilizing materials at hand when iron for scabbards was difficult to obtain. Needless to say, the scabbard were quite fragile & shatter easily, this is a great example w/ a complete original & sound scabbard. CONDITION: 34.75” slightly curved unstopped fuller blade is gray w/ scattered areas of staining & pitting. Single iron wire wrap is complete, tightly wrapped trapping tiny remnants of original leather on carved wooden grip w/ dark hand worn patina. Scabbard is sound & solid w/ scattered cosmetic scratches & dents. Sheet iron mounts retain most of their original black japanned finish. Hilt & ring mounts have mixed light-medium mustard patina. (02-14521/JS). $7,000-9,000.
