Cal. 270. S# 3X17599. (1963). This relatively scarce rifle has 22" lightweight bbl. w/ no sights. FN lg. ring standard weight action has safety at right side. Aluminum bottom metal is black anodized & has hinged floorplate. Metal parts are engraved w/ lg. open scroll w/ acanthus highlights covering 60% of action & w/ triangles on bbl. Engraving on bottom metal is gold highlighted & surrounds head of big horn ram on floorplate. Medallion grades were known for their good wood & this rifle has striking crotch figured American walnut w/ fiddle figure running through to forend. It measures 13 5/8" over white line pad & has Monte Carlo comb w/ swept right hand cheekpiece. Skip line checkering in fancy pattern is at grip & around forend. Grip cap & forend tip are of rosewood, separated by white line spacers. A white triangle is at center of grip cap. CONDITION: fine. Bbl. & action retain over 90% original blue w/ some marks on receiver ring & bridge after removal of scope bases. Bright polish of bolt is toned a bit. Bottom metal retains over 90% of its black color w/ some light scratches & a screw driver ding at rear guard screw. Stock has numerous light marks & scratches in its original varnish finish w/ some sharp edge wear through finish at edges of comb & cheekpiece. Checkering is lightly worn & dark in color. Bore is shiny w/ strong rifling. (20-594/MGM100). CURIO. $2,000-2,750.
