ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 88769. Bbl. 24". Model 70 bolt action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1948, the first year Model 70 production resumed after World War II. The left side of the bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. information, followed by the Winchester trademark logo, the model designation, as well as ".30 GOV'T '06" (the " ' " and "6" being poorly stamped). Left side of the receiver is marked with the Winchester trademark logo, with the S# "88769" marked on the right side of the chamber. Receiver and bolt handle exhibit a matte blue finish, with remaining metal components exhibiting a standard polished blue finish. Bolt body and floorplate are properly polished in-the-white. 1-piece wood pistol grip stock features checkered panels on either side of the forearm and wrist, as well as a checkered blued steel buttplate. Toeline of stock and underside of forearm feature sling swivels. Ramped and aluminum beaded blade front sight with dovetailed U-notch rear sight. Receiver features a grooved matte band over the top of the chamber. Top of chamber and receiver bridge are factory drilled and tapped with 2 plug screws. Bolt matches the receiver via the full S#, which is electro-penciled on the underside of the bolt body. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some very light to light edge wear, as well as some light superficial handling marks. Bolt handle exhibits a small patch of mild pitting on the outward face, which appears to be below the finish (possibly indicating touch up). Bolt body retains a bright appearance. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Stock is very good, showing some light superficial handling marks and small scattered spots of flaking overall. A fine example of a Pre-64 Winchester Model 70, produced the first year production resumed after the conclusion of World War II. (26-953/MLW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
