Cal. 45 ACP. S# 38413. Approx. 5,800 Navy contract pistols were shipped to the U.S. Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York between July & August 1913 (S# range 38001-43800). This pistol appears to have all correct parts: including 5" Colt Type 3 barrel w/ additional "J" proof on left lug, "GHS" proof on frame & Type 1 double diamond checkered walnut grips. MAGS: 1 two tone 7 rd. with indentation near spine lip. Fair overall showing heavy patina throughout. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: custom made walnut case with shadow line cutouts for 4 1911 profile pistols. CONDITION: fine. This pistol has about 90% original blue fine finish showing considerable loss of bluing on front strap, mainspring housing & grip safety in carry areas. This finish also shows scattered minute handling marks, assembly slide lock scratches & light edge wear. Good grips showing scattered flattened diamonds & 1 notable gouge in left panel. Barrel has good coverage of blue showing cycling wear; bore shows strong rifling with frosting along edges of grooves. PROVENANCE: From the lifelong Collection of Jim Williams (24-2640/MD).
