Cal. 52. NSN. 41 1/4" Full oct. bbl. signed "SB". The flint lock is stamped "Leman Lancaster PA." There is a brass inlay behind the lock suggesting Baum intentionally used a smaller lock when he made the rifle. The curly maple stock is incise carved front & back of the cheekpiece. The bbl. is held to stock by 4 bbl. wedges. Samuel Baum is known to have signed his bbls. "SB" & is considered to be one of the best gunsmiths to have worked in the Upper Susquehanna School. 4 Piece brass patchbox has 8 piercings. CONDITION: appears to be clean & original throughout w/ no evidence of any repairs or restoration. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19611/RG). ANTIQUE. $13,000-15,000.
