Cal. 20 bore. The Duon name first appears in a 1795 census listing Antoine Duon as an armorer that entered Nancy, France in 1783, was 37 years old at the time of the census. The Duon family name continued to appear on finely finished flintlock and percussion firearms through out the mid 19th century . This example is fit with a 34 3/8" blued smoothbore bbl that begins round and transitions at a wedding ring band to an octagon. It is embellished with a decorative gold muzzle band , double gold wire breech border, the address "DUON A NANCY CANON TORDU" in gold with beaded borders, and deep struck proofs. It is stocked with an attractive relief carved stock that silhouettes the iron furniture and a green velvet cheek pad atop the raised cheek rest. The rounded lock is marked "DUON A NANCY" in fancy script with a fine line border engraving that continues onto the hammer & battery. CONDITION: Overall very good. The bbl retains 80% of its original bluing with nearly all of the gold remaining. Very good stock with some minor handling marks. The velvet remains in remarkable condition.
