& SIDEPLATE. Cal. 44. NSN. 57 1/2" Overall. Bbl. 41 1/2" oct. w/ brass inset front blade sight, fixed notch rear sight, unsigned. Rifle has unique 4 piece patch box w/ stud release at back, the side panels appear to have profiles of human faces on either side. The engraved flower surroundings screws are reminiscent of Moll family. The overall shape of patch box & sideplate are reminiscent of Wolfgang Haga & his many apprentices not just in the Reading school. Bbl. tang & sideplate w/ the arrowhead shaped rear extensions should be attributable. Regardless of maker, this is an attractive rifle. CONDITION: very good overall, appears original w/ only minor restoration to wood mostly around lock w/ crack repair on left side between bbl. tang & sideplate. Mechanically functional w/ clear rifled bore. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of John "Tim" Breth Jr. (01-17747/JS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,000.
