BY EDWARD GERRARD & SONS NATURAL HISTORY STUDIOS. Camdentown, London. The Gerrard firm began business around 1850 until 1967. Gerrand was friends with Charles Darwin and mounted specimens for Darwin. They were one of the world’s foremost taxidermist and reknown for their fabulous fish carvings such as this magnificent salmon. This beautifully preserved carved and painted salmon mounted on a quarter sawn rectangular oak plaque with beveled edge. It is additionally mounted with a brass plaque in the lower left corner facing which reads "George R. Nutter/Fosland on the Namsen-Elv./Norway July 21, 1932/Weight 44 lbs." An original Edward Gerrard & Sons paper label is affixed to the back. SIZE: Carving is 44 1/2" l. Plaque is 20" h x 55" l. CONDITION: very fine, original condition with rich patina and strong color.
