SHOT BOLT ACTION TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. S# E125137. Bbl. 28". Model 52E single shot bolt action target rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1977 (1 of only 192 produced that year). Left side of the bull barrel is marked with the Winchester trademark logo, followed by the model and cal. designations above Winchester's mfg. information. Left side of the chamber is marked with the S#, with the Winchester trademark logo marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a polished blue finish overall, save for on the bolt body, which is polished in-the-white. Bolt handle exhibits a matte blue finish, with the aluminum trigger guard exhibiting a blue anodized finish. 1-piece plain wood target style pistol grip stock features a 14" hand stop rail on the underside of the forearm fitted with black synthetic hand stop, a sling swivel, as well as a grooved black rubber Winchester recoil pad. Action features a factory adj. trigger. Top of the bbl. is drilled and tapped with x3 sets of 2 plug screws at 1/2", 18 1/4", and 25 1/4" (from the muzzle to the foremost screw), with the receiver also being drilled and tapped over the chamber and the receiver bridge. 2 plug screws on the bbl. are replacements. Bbl. is counterbored approx. 3/8" at the muzzle. Bolt matches the receiver via "125137" in electro-pencil on the underside of the body. CONDITION: fine, with metal components retaining virtually all of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some light superficial marks at the rear of the receiver. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Stock is very good, showing a few superficial handling marks overall. With production of the Model 52 ceasing in 1979, this is a fine example of one of the last approx. 502 (1977: 192, 1978: 207, 1979: 103 produced) Model 52 rifles produced by Winchester. PROVENANCE: From the Lifetime Collection of Malcolm Zickler, Ret. USAF Lt. Col. (26-779/MLW). MODERN. $1,200-2,000.
