GAME GUN WITH CASE. Cal. 20 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 16546 (1928). This gun appears to be an Atkin, Grant, & Lang rebuild. The 26 1/2" dovetailed bbls. are engraved "William Evans Ltd., 67A St. James's Street London. SW 1A1PH" on a deeply swamped game rib with a doll's head extension. Bbl. flats are stamped with 1983 London nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Serial numbers are engraved on the bottom of the bbls. Case-hardened small-size sidelock screw-grip action features automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), a third fastener with a screw-grip top lever engaging the doll's head extension, bushed strikers, & double triggers. Action is engraved with about 80% coverage of a well-cut small scroll. Maker's name is on each side. Blued top lever & trigger guard are engraved to match. Serial number is on the trigger guard tang. Lightly marbled and well-figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 5/8" over a brown leather-covered pad. Stock features classic drop points, closely spaced checkering wrapping around the grip, and a gold oval on the toeline engraved "NEJ". Matching splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .614", L .615". Restriction: R .005" (IC), L .015" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .030", L .030". STOCK: DAH: 2 13/16". DAC: 1 1/2-". LOP: 14 5/8". CAST: approx. 5/8" off. WEIGHT: 5 lb. 9 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in a good-quality brown leather VC case with stitched leather corners marked "Made in England". A gold-embossed black leather William Evans label is on the lid, along with a telephone number beginning with 01. Case contains a cleaning rod, snap caps, & oil bottle. CONDITION: fine as refurbished, showing subsequent wear. Bbls. retain over 95% of their original blue, with some spots of oxidation and light silvering on sharp edges. Action & lockplates retain over 90% of their renewed case-hardening color. Engraving remains clear. Stocks, most likely replaced, retain over 95% of their finish, with some light handling marks & scuffs. Checkering remains lightly worn. Bores are bright & shiny. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is very fine, with a few minor marks. Straps & handle are good. Interior cloth is also fine, as are accessories. (22-2285/MGM). CURIO. $7,500-12,500.
