MOUNTS. Overall length: 19 1/4". Blade length: 13 1/4". A very nice example of a well made Scottish dirk likely dating between 1850-1875. Blade has an 8" shallow, wide fuller & an 8 1/2" narrow fuller pierced by 14 evenly spaced holes. Silver mounted wood hilt. Hilt has an embellished silver ferrule at the base of the basket weave carved grip. The grip is covered in numerous silver nails/tacks throughout. The pommel is terminated w/ a 1 1/2" faceted cairngorm (topaz) set in an embellished silver ring. The sheath features 2 oblong suspension rings on the top of the silver mount. The top mount is embellished w/ thistle around a Scottish warrior & the 2 central mounts are embellished w/ thistles. The tip has heavy foliate & thistle repousse work. The scabbard also houses a similarly decorated knife & fork set on the side. The knife blade is marked, “WILLARD”. Both the knife & the fork have faceted rose quartz gems mounted in silver at the pommel. CONDITION: blade shows light wear w/ minor dark spots near the tip & the throat. The hilt shows light wear & the cairngorm is undamaged. Scabbard is complete & shows light wear throughout. (02-15851/BF). $1,200-1,800.
