27" x 40” Canvas, 35" x 48” frame. There is only one known contemporary portrait of James Bowie which was thought painted by George Peter Alexander Healy, circa 1820s which now resides in the Texas House of Representatives, Austin, TX. This copy was painted by Tom Donahue (1948-2012). Donahue was a well-known Memphis portrait artist who painted many famous Memphis personalities. Consignor, John Montague, also well-known Memphis personality & attorney commissioned Donahue to drive to location of this painting & use his skill to copy it, which he did a great rendition. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of Memphis Magazine obituary of painter Tom Donahue. CONDITION: very good to fine overall. PROVENANCE: Collection of John Montague. (02-16501/JS). $800-1,200.
