Cal. 12 Ga. 2-5/8" S# 27721. The 28" barrels fitted with slightly raised matted rib holding two white beads are marked for Chromox fluid steel and with Fox Philadelphia address on tops. Action is engraved with near full coverage open scroll within line and geometric borders, which surrounds game scenes. A pair of quail are on left side of action and snipe are on right, both under "ANSLEY H. FOX". Bottom of action depicts a setter facing right with grass in foreground and brush behind. Blued trigger guard bow is engraved with scroll, S# is on tang. Nicely fiddle figured and lightly marbled European walnut Fox capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8" over Silver pad. Side panels are checkered and point pattern checkering with curved front borders is at grip. Matching splinter ejector forend with patent dates stamped on iron has Deeley type release. CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-3/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 5 oz. CONDITION: very fine, barrels retaining over 85% original lusterous blue with a scattering of minor marks and a fair sized scuff on breech area of left barrel. Muzzles remain bright from their original polish. Engine turning is extremely fine on barrel flats and cocking slide. Damascening remains on breech ends. Action retains perhaps as much as 70% original case hardening color which was never very dark as evidenced by color remaining on watertable. Bottom of action and fences show considerable silvering as do top of thumb lever and rear portion of top tang. Original blue on trigger guard remains at about 90% with silvering on sharp edges and some minor marks. Stocks retain nearly all their original oil finish with quite a few light marks and four or five that are fairly heavy, mostly on right side of butt. Checkering shows light wear and is still fairly light in color on grip. Forend checkering has darkened and shows some compressions. Old Silver pad is squashed and petrified. The letters "HGL" are stamped on left side of stock at toe. Forend tip is missing. Bores are bright and shiny without any noted problems. Action is tight; ejectors are in time. (23-1274/MGM).
