LEVER ACTION MUSKET WITH CODY FIREARMS RESEARCH LETTER. Cal. 45-70. S# 82440. Bbl. 30". Research indicates that the 1886 is the second rarest musket mfg. by Winchester, with the Trials 1894 being the rarest. Estimated total production of only 350 units. Pinned blade front sight w/ military Windage rear sight. Blue & case colored finish. Musket length forearm fastened by a single band. Straight grip stock w/ sling swivels & trapdoor musket buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Winchester Repeating Fire Arms letter, "Musket / 45/70 caliber / Received in warehouse on September 15,1893 / Shipped from warehouse on September 15, 1893, order number 22833". CONDITION: bbl. shows 80% lightly faded blue w/ scattered spots of darkening from corrosion. Action has faded to a mottled silvery gray showing spotted corrosion. Stock & forearm show finish wear w/ scattered scratches & marks. Very good bright bore. (01-26414/DS). ANTIQUE. $12,000-18,000.
