GRADE BOXLOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUNS WITH CASES & ACCESSORIES. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4" (Both). S# 8481 & 8482 (1972). Each gun of this interesting pair has two 25" dovetailed barrel sets with Churchill ribs gold inlaid "XXV" on tops. Barrel sets are numbered "1" & "2" for each gun with extra set of barrels denoted by "C" in gold at breech ends. All barrel sets are engraved "Churchill (Gunmakers) Ltd" "7 Bury Street St. James's St. London England" on tops. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers at .729. Case hardened double ogee backed boxlock actions feature automatic safetys ("SAFE" inlaid in gold) and single non-selective triggers. Actions are engraved with very nicely cut and shaded varying size scroll with rose bouquet highlights. "CHURCHILL" is in scrolled banners on each side. Blued floor plates are engraved "THE" "REGAL". Double beaded trigger guards have S#s on tangs. Well matched, somewhat stump figured, European walnut round knob pistol grip buttstocks measure 15-5/8" over checkered wood butts on 2-1/4" lengthening pieces (13-1/2" to end of wood cut with original curve). Stocks feature well shaped drop points, point pattern borderless grip checkering and gold ovals on toe lines engraved "QAS", Quincy Adams Shaw III.. Matching long beaver tail ejector forends have Anson releases. Quincy Adams Shaw III was born in Brookline, MA and was a Harvard-educated businessman and only son of a prominent, wealthy Boston Brahmin family. Quincy was also the grand-nephew of the famed American Civil War hero Robert Gould Shaw who commanded the 54th MA Regt. MEASUREMENTS: Gun 1. BBL "1": Bore Diameter: L .729. R .727. Wall thickness: L .036. R .030. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: each gun has its own green canvas "VC" case with stitched leather corners embossed "Q.A.S." on top along with "No 1 or No 2" at front right. Cases are lined in green cloth and have black leather Churchill labels in lids. Bottom compartments have partitions for both barrel sets and contain a pair of Churchill marked snap caps and keys. CONDITION: very fine. All barrel sets retaining over 95% original blue. Both sets of barrels on gun #2 show some silvering at muzzles; "C" marked barrels have some rust flecking. Both actions retain over 95% original case hardening color; again #2 shows a bit more wear with some silvering along bottom and on fences. Gun #2 also shows some silvering on trigger guard beads otherwise all blued secondary parts on both guns retain over 95% original blue. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with good quality refinishing of butt portions of both guns with stock extensions. All bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. Actions are tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Triggers appear to work well. PROVENANCE: Descended directly through the family of Quincy Adams Shaw III (QAS). (25-5271 & 25-5272/MGM).
