VOLCANIC REPEATING ARMS LEVER ACTION PISTOLS. Cal. 41. S# 1604/1630. Pistols are in standard configuration with blued 8" octagonal barrel, integral spring loaded magazine, fixed notch rear sights, pinched post front sights, brass frame, varnished walnut grips. Manufactured between 1855-1859 after the formation of the Volcanic Arms Company from the dissolved original Smith & Wesson Co. Barrel markings: "THE VOLCANIC ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN CONN / PATENT FEB 14 1854" on top flat. This pair of pistols are in fine matching condition and old custom casing contains a four piece iron and wood carbine cleaning rod, and a single 41 caliber rocket ball cartridge. An estimated 1500 8" Volcanic Arms Company pistols were made 1855-1857. CONDITION: fine overall, barrels and magazines retain about 80% of their bright original blue finish, on S# 1630 the rotating sleeve at muzzle has no blue remaining but rest of barrel has virtually all its blue. Frames have smooth brass patina, well-fit grips retain most all original factory varnished finish, mechanically fine, sharp rifled bores. Accompanying casing is very good. (01-26874/JS).
