SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER WITH DISPLAY CASE & ACCESSORIES. Cal. 45 LC. S# PE408-E. Bbl. 7 1/2". One of 1,000 Single Action Army revolvers, mfg. by Colt during the 1960s, commemorating the Pony Express. The left side of the bbl. is marked " ~RUSSELL, MAJORS AND WADDELL~/ PONY EXPRESS PRESENTATION MODEL", with "COLT .45 PEACEMAKER" marked on the right. Left side of the frame is marked with Colt's 2-line patent information, closely followed by the Rampant Colt logo. Rear grip strap is marked "SALT LAKE CITY TO FORT LARAMIE". Metal components exhibit a bright nickel-plated finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt silver medallion smooth wood grips. Standard SAA pattern blade front sight, with frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, cyl., grip straps (beneath the left grip panel), as well as the grips, which match via a handwritten "408" on their interiors. Matching assembly number "563" is present on the rear of the frame and on the loading gate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: glass-topped wood display case containing three commemorative coins as well as two additional matching cyls. First cyl. is marked with portraits of the founders above "RUSSEL", "MAJORS", "WADDELL", and "FOUNDERS", with a depiction of a man on horseback above "120 CELEBRATED RIDERS/ RODE 650,000 MILES" on the reverse. 2nd cyl. is marked with a map of notable stops between St. Joseph, MO, and Sacramento, CA. CONDITION: extremely fine, with metal components retaining virtually all of their original factory nickel-plated finish overall. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting well-defined rifling throughout. Grips are excellent overall. Display case shows some light to mild exterior wear from handling and storage but otherwise remains very good overall. Spare cyls. are fine overall. (24-4127/MLW).
