WESSON NO. 2 ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 32, S# 223. This revolver is the first gun featured in June 1996 Gun Report article by Mike Bricker, in standard configuration, 6" barrel, one line address, blue finish. Right side of frame below cylinder is stamped by Smith & Wesson "B. KITTREDGE & CO". This revolver was among the very first sold in June 1861. Bricker in his article shows the various Kittredge markings of which only the earliest were applied by Smith & Wesson during the Civil War. Post war Kittredge used their own stamps which were never as professionally struck as wartime examples. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of June 1996 Gun Report article "Smith & Wesson and Kittredge". CONDITION: revolver retains about 20% of its original blue finish, balance mottled smooth gray patina, markings good & discernible. Tip of hammer spur broken off, but still functional as seen on many survivors. Rosewood grips well fit with some varnish retained, hand worn patina. Mechanically fine, shiny rifled bore with pitting. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-25009/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
