SWORD BY WILKINSON. Overall length: 35”. Blade length: 28 1/8”. This sword is a faithful and quality reproduction of Washington’s dress sword, worn during his inauguration in New York on April 30, 1789. It was given to him by his good friend, Major General William Drake. The sword has a colichemarde blade that is etched over the bottom 7 1/2" with foliate and military motifs. The ricasso has two opposing eagles on one side and “WILKINSON SWORD LONDON” on the other. Silver hilt with a boat-shaped guard and shallow pas d’ane. Twisted knuckle bow and pommel. Hallmarked knuckle bow and top ferrule. Wire-wrapped grip. No scabbard. Sword comes with a protective felt bag. CONDITION: sword shows very light wear overall, with a highly polished blade and a pleasing patina on the hilt. (02-22652/BF). $250-400.
