MUSKETOON W/ BAYONET. NSN. 41” Overall, 26” rnd smoothbore bbl. w/ “VP/Eaglehead” proofs, “1851” stamped on tang. Lock has eagle over “US” forward of hammer, ”SPRING/FIELD / 1851” vertically at tail. Sling swivel is found on rear band & fitted on escutcheon at back bottom of buttstock; trumpet headed ramrod. Though 3000 of this pattern were made, few survive in such fine original condition. CONDITION: very good to fine overall. Metal is cleaned & bright, crisp markings, small areas of pinprick pitting. Stock is sound & solid, refinished & varnished. Single inspector’s cartouche visible in outline only. Bayonet (US surcharged) w/ matching fine bright condition. Mechanically crisp, bright smooth bore. (01-19916/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-5,000.
