WITH SCOPE. Cal. 7x57R. S# 18166. The 25-1/2" half octagon half round ribbed barrel is fitted with flip-up "u" notch rear sight and white bead front along with claw scope bases. Unmatted portion of rib is engraved "Carl Stiegele Hofgewerefabrik, Munchen". Bottom of barrel is stamped with German nitro proofs for 7x57 and with a proof date of "7.36". Case hardened, scallop backed, reinforced boxlock double Kirsten action features tang safety, intercepting safety sear, bushed striker and double set triggers. Action is engraved with about 70% coverage well cut scroll with some floral highlights. No maker's markings are present. Blued trigger guard is also scroll engraved. Sunburst horn capped pistol grip buttstock of nicely figured European walnut measures 14" over newer solid basket weave pad. Stock features swept right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering, sling loop and a gold oval engraved "D.D.S.". Two piece forend extends to muzzle with horn tip. Removable portion with Deeley latch has horn divider and very small secondary schnable. A Lyman All American 3X scope with cross hair reticle is in custom claw rings. CONDITION: very fine. Barrel retaining over 90% blue. Action with most of its case hardening color. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish with only a few minor marks. Bore appears very fine, although a bit dirty. Action is tight. Triggers work. Scope is fine, optically clear. A small chip has lifted behind left side of action at top and should be attended to before firing this elegant little rifle.
