Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 40” round w/ Barleycorn front sight w/ single leaf rear sight. Bbl. is dated 1863. 1863 Springfield marked lock. Nipple bolster & lock bare eagle motifs. Case colored lock. Bbl. & fittings have the uncommon blued finish. 3 band fastened full length walnut stock w/ steel musket buttplate having sling loops on front band & trigger guard. Left ear of stock has 2 crisp cartouches consisting of “TBH” for Thomas B. Hawks & “ESA” for Erskin S. Alin. Left side of stock has an eagle & shield motif over “WHITNEY ARMS Co” marking. Tulip tipped iron ramrod. CONDITION: very fine. Bbl. & fittings retain 40% dull fading blue showing spots of corrosion. Lock plate & hammer have dark faded appearance. Unsanded stock has original varnish showing light wear w/ dents, scratches & handling marks. Sound lock. Bore is generally bright retaining strong rifling.
