Cal. 69. NSN. This is a superior example of a 100% original survivor of Springfield Armory's only flintlock pistol with excellent markings throughout. It would be difficult to upgrade this example. 18" Overall, 11.25" barrel dated "1818" at top of breech and proofed raised "P" in oval cartouche / eagle head / "V". Flat slightly beveled lock stamped with spread wing eagle / "U.S" & "Springfield / 1818" at tail, reinforced cock, straight tail frizzen. Trigger plate stamped "EA" (Epaphriditius Allis). Stock is inspected with 2 script inspector cartouches "S" & "ET" (Elisha Toby). There is stamped "RC" (Rusel Curtis) above buttcap. Original wood ramrod has slotted iron tip. This pistol is the largest of all American martial flint pistols. Production started in 1807 but were shelved and all completed and dated 1818. CONDITION: very good to fine overall, original flint, all original & matching, metal overall smooth & armory bright. Stock well fit, bright cartouches and inspection marks, hairline age crack near buttcap. Mechanically crisp, clear smooth bore. (01-23818/JS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
