"THOMAS, GRISWOLD & CO / NEW ORLEANS" marked 31.5” blade with much of its original luster & shine. Rarely will you find a better condition blade on a Confederate sword. Thomas, Griswold was well known for his exceptional solid brass scabbards, & this example has a fine one. CONDITION: Very good overall blade as noted retains much of its original luster and tool marks as made, makers mark is mostly discernible with weak strike of some letters. Spiral cut wood grip retains about 40% of its thin leather veneer and all of its tight twisted copper wire wrap. Scabbard is sound, toned to a light patina matching hilt & pommel. All in all a very attractive example of the unique brass scabbarded New Orleans Confederate saber. (02-19421/JS). $7,000-9,000.
