ORIGINAL FLINT. Cal. 69. NSN. Usual configuration with 42" barrel held by three spring retained bands is stamped "P" within oval on top rear. Lock with flat plate is fitted with round bodied cock, angled inset brass pan, bridled frizzen and feather spring with single spear finial. Lock is of type II variation with frizzen pivot screw 1 11/16" from front end of lock. Walnut stock is iron mounted. Trigger guard has spear at front end and rounded tail. Sling loops are welded into eyes. Inspectors mark "JN" (John Newberry) is on left side opposite lock. CONDITION: fine to very fine. Barrel and lock with light cleaning to overall gray with some brown highlights. Furniture is mostly gray to brown. Stock retains nearly all its original finish with light wear and a good scattering of marks. Bore is mostly bright with some scattered pits. Lock is very fine with all matching assembly marks (a small triangle) found on parts. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22474/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,500-4,000.
