PERCUSSION RIFLE. Cal. 45. NSN. Bbl. 42" octagon measuring 3/4" across flats at the muzzle. Brass Rocky Mtn. front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Top flat is engraved "Buchele". William Buchele, 1895-1977, was a renowned builder of contemporary flintlock & percussion rifle & pistols in the 1960's -1970;s. He is known as a co-author of the book "Recreating the American Long Rifle" with George Shumway and Peter Alexander. Under hammer action with a plain trigger. Roman nose stock & full length forend of fine maple having tight fiddle figure. Buttstock section features a moulded lower edge cheekpiece surrounded by relief carving. Pin fastened forearm with in-the-white nose cap. Other in-the-white fittings include a crescent buttplate and finger curl trigger guard. Right side of stock has a rectangular lid pierced and segmented in-the-white patchbox with floral and scroll engraving. Other engraved in-the-white fittings include wrist plates, toe plate, and 4 sets of pin escutcheons on each side. Brass tipped hardwood ramrod is held by a faceted in-the-white thimble and 2 faceted pipes. Weight: 8 lbs. 0.0 oz. CONDITION: near excellent. Bbl. retains nearly all browned finish. Bright finished fittings retain good finish showing light staining with spots of pitting on rear surface of buttplate. Stock and forearm have very good original finish. Sound mechanics.
