DOUBLE SHOTGUN WITH TWO BARREL SETS AND ORIGINAL CASE. Cal. 20 Ga., 3". S# W32312 (1974). Both barrel sets, one 26" the other 28", are fitted with matted game ribs engraved "CUSTOM BUILT BY WINCHESTER" in milled out portion of ribs. Breech ends are engraved with 3" triangles of scroll. Engine turned barrel flats are stamped with S#, gauge and chamber info. Bottoms of 26" barrels are marked "WS-1" & "WS-2". 28" barrels are marked for IC & MOD. Blued flatsided small size model 21 action features non automatic safetys ("SAFE" inlaid in gold) and goldplated single selective trigger. Action is engraved and gold inlaid in usual Grand American Style with near full coverage varying size scroll within line and feather borders. This scroll surrounds gold inlaid bird and dog scenes with setter on left side of action and pointing pointer on right. A pair of pheasant on ground under a tree are in circular vignette on trigger plate. The portrait of a spaniel is on trigger guard bow. Fences are semi relief carved with oak leaves. Wonderfully crotch figured American walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14" over checkered wood butt and is "B" carved with fleur de lis in checkering which also has fluroishes into butt. A gold oval on toeline is engraved "NEJ". Matching braced beavertail ejector forends with inlet ebony tips and engine turned internals have usual "J" are spring release with knurled roller secondary latch. Wood of forends is not numbered. Irons are stamped "1" & "2" on tips matching numbers on loops. MEASUREMENTS: 26" BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .614". R. .614". Restriction: L .005" (IC). R .007" Flare (skeet). Wall thickness: L .021". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun and extra barrels are housed in what appears to be its original leather case with brass corners, lined in burgundy cloth. A leather Winchester label is in lid. Case contains 2 piece rosewood and brass cleaning rod with mop, brush & jag in black leather case, and some cleaning rags. Factory letter. CONDITION: very fine as refinished most likely by factory. Barrels retaining nearly all their reblack, there is some light subsequent silvering on top lever and safety button. Stocks retain most of a light oil refinish with one or two bumps and marks. Checkering shows light wear and darkening and has not been recut. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems, mechanically fine. Case leather shows some water staining, straps and handle are good, interior has some rubs through and light soiling, label has some bumps. PROVENANCE: a factory letter to Ed Ulrich 1996 with extract of original records confirming two barrel sets, chambers, ribs and straight grip, with final inspection date of March 6, 1974.
