"YAMAPI", WEARING US PRESEDENTIAL PEACE MEDAL. William H Jackson, Denver, circa 1880 "Yamapi", "a runner for Chief Ouray", imprinted on bottom of emulsion. Yamapi is seen in photograph from 1880 of the Ute delegation in Washington. Chief Ouray (1833-1880) was the chief peace negotiator for his tribe. The 1880 negotiations resulted in no benefits for the Utes, Chief Ouray would die shortly after failed negotiations on that reservation in southern Colorado. CONDITION: very good.
