MANTON DOUBLE FLINT SHOTGUN BY THE ESTEEMED JACK HAUGH OF FRIENDSHIP INDIANA. Cal. 20 Bore. NSN. The 29-1/2" steel barrels are fitted with Manton type "elevating rib" which is engraved "Jack Haugh FRIENDSHIP-IND". Later type case hardened patent breeches are deeply inset to provide rapid ignition and are fitted with platinum touch holes. Breech iron is near fully engraved in Manton style. Hand made case hardened locks with chamfered plates and rebated squared off tails also feature high breasted serpentine cocks, waterproof pans and bridled roller frizzens. Temper blued feather springs have raised roller humps at tops, finials are bulbous and have small teats. Locks are engraved in classic style with scroll and music books. Borders and screw pivots are feather engraved. Each lock is engraved "Jack Haugh" "FRIENDSHIP" under pans. (Jack Haugh was an exceptionally well known and talented riflesmith who cut his teeth during the early days of the resurgence of interest in fine muzzleloaders. In his later years he transitioned into building fine sporting rifles as it was difficult to fine clients interested in muzzleloaders. Jack died in 2018.) Stock of well streaked European walnut measures 14-3/8" over blued steel buttplate with long top spur. Point pattern square checkering is around grip and stock attaches to barrels with captive side bolt through oval silver escutcheons. All mounts are steel with trigger plate having traditional pineapple finial. Blued trigger guard is engraved with open music book. Trunkated silver rectangle at top of grip is engraved "NEJ". Rosewood ramrod with brass tip and tail (worm under tail) mounts through two plain pipes and thimble with pineapple matching trigger plate. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .630. R .630. There is a patch of rust at heel on buttplate and some discoloration on right side base of trigger guard with associated lifting of wood finish from some spilled liquid. Bores are bright and shiny. Mechanically fine. Gun shows little firing however, frizzens have many flint strikes. (01-21923/MGM). ANTIQUE. $3,500-6,000.
