Cal. 30 Luger. S# 2234. Bbl. 3 7/8". 1 of approx. 8,000 Model 1920 Lugers (Finnish designation: M/23) purchased by Finland from DWM. While not Finnish marked, this example exhibits all the signs indicative of Finnish use, which include a Lahti style blade front sight, modification of the V-notch rear sight into a "U" configuration, as well as a Pri Garden City import mark (observed by this cataloger on a number of Finnish used Lugers). This example is marked with a vertical Crown/N commercial nitro proof on the left side of the bbl. extension (repeated on underside of bbl.), with a horizontal Crown/N proof marked on the left side of the breechblock. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Unusually, the S# suffix on the frame and underside of the bbl. have been over-stamped with a crown proof, and while observed a handful of times before, its exact significance remains unknown. Rear of frame is import marked "PRI GARDEN CITY KS/ DWM P08 30 LUGER GERMANY" on either side of the stock lug. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on some small parts, which are strawed. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Aforementioned Finnish pattern sights consisting of a dovetailed Lahti style blade front sight and modified large U-notch rear sight. Rear face of front sight is painted red, with rear face of rear sight painted yellow. Nearly all serialized parts are matching in the "hidden" commercial fashion, and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, bbl., and rear toggle link. Trigger bar exhibits a few dings around the S# and appears to read "24". MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd., with non-matching Finnish numbered (S#: 7762) wood plug. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts to the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some scattered patches of wear fading to gray patina, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Grip straps exhibit large areas of wear fading to gray patina. Right half of trigger bar appears to have been cleaned and has faded to a gray patina. Strawed parts appear to have been cleaned, retaining trace to fair amounts of their finish. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered patches of light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. (25-6084/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
