Cal. 30 Luger. S# 2804q. Bbl. 3 15/16". Due to praise from Finnish volunteers of the 27th Jager battalion during WWI, dissatisfaction with the domestically produced Ahlberg, and poor results with the Spanish Ruby pistols, the Finnish Ministry of Defense approached DWM in hopes of securing a contract for the P.08 Luger. Due to the Treaty of Versailles, DWM was unable to produce any Lugers in 9x19mm Parabellum, with Finland ultimately accepting an order of approx. 8,000 Model 1920 Lugers, which they designated as the "M/23". This example is marked with a Crown/N commercial nitro proof on the left side of the bbl., which is repeated on the left side of the breechblock. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Top of the Finnish replacement bbl. is marked with a "T" within an inverted triangle and circle, indicating mfg. by Tikkakoski. Rear of frame exhibits a "PRI GARDEN CITY KS/ P08 30 LUGER GERMANY" import mark on either side of the stock lug. Metal components exhibit what appears to be a Finnish arsenal reapplied blue finish overall, with previously strawed parts having been cleaned mostly in-the-white at one time. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Finnish Lahti style blade front sight with fixed rear sight having been modified into U-notch configuration. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, and rear toggle link. Takedown lever retention spring is absent. MAGS: x1 8-rd. mag., with unmarked wood plug. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their apparent Finnish arsenal applied blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning fading to gray patina, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Strawed parts have faded to a gray patina. Bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics, save for the hold-open latch and/or mag. which do not lock the toggle train rearward unless pressure is applied to the bottom of the mag. Grips show smoothing, as well as some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with the left panel exhibiting a small chip in the usual area, at and to the right of the safety lever. (25-6082/MLW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
