PISTOL. Cal. 30 Luger. S# 8989o. Bbl. 3 15/16". Due to praise from Finnish volunteers of the 27th Jager battalion during WWI, dissatisfaction with the domestically produced Ahlberg, and poor results with the Spanish Ruby pistols, the Finnish Ministry of Defense approached DWM in hopes of securing a contract for the P.08 Luger. Due to the Treaty of Versailles, DWM was unable to produce any Lugers in 9x19mm Parabellum, with Finland ultimately accepting an order of approx. 8,000 Model 1920 Lugers, which they designated as the "M/23". This example is marked with a Crown/N commercial nitro proof on the left side of the bbl. extension, which is also present on the left side of the breechblock. Toggle is marked with the intertwined "DWM" monogram logo. Top of the Finnish replacement bbl. is marked with a "T" within an inverted triangle, indicating mfg. by Tikkakoski. Rear of frame is exhibits a "PRI GARDEN CITY KS/ P08 30 LUGER GERMANY" import mark on either side of the stock lug. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight (painted yellow) and fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching in the "hidden" commercial fashion, and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, as well as the rear toggle link. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with unmarked wood plug. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, scattered spots of mild surface oxidation, as well as scattered spots and patches of mild to moderate pitting (primarily present beneath the grip panels). Bbl. has faded to a mottled gray patina, exhibiting some scattered spots and patches of dark mild oxidation. Very bright bore, exhibiting some scattered spots of light to mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show mild smoothing, as well as some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage. Left grip exhibits a crack stemming from the bottom edge of the panel, with a chip present in the usual area, at and to the right of the safety lever. (25-6083/MLW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
