MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 7.62x54R. S# 45996. S# matches on the bbl. and bolt knob. Bbl. 27". Import-marked at the forward end. The Model 1927 Infantry rifle was the first major improvement to the Model 1891 Russian Mosin Nagant used by Finland. Finland used the basic hexagon receiver action and rebuilt it into a more modern design. The rear sight is the Russian Konovalov model, which has an improved slide and sight notch, and the sights re-graduated from Arshins to meters. The blade front sight has distinctive protective ears, which gave the rifle the nickname "SPITZ". Bbl. is marked on top with the Tikkakoski "T" in the inverted triangle; it is also marked with a boxed "SA", indicating Finnish property, dated "1932," and also with "F" and the "D", indicating Type D ammunition. Straight bolt handle and Finnish type 2 stage trigger. The hardwood stock set has its typical Finnish features, with a two-piece finger-jointed forend. The two-piece buttstock construction and the recoil bolt are aligned with the grasping grooves. The upper band has the post-1934 "popsicle stick" reinforcing bars. Cleaning rod and bayonet bar are present. Flat lower band is retained by a screw. Stirrup-type sling swivels are set in escutcheon plates. CONDITION: stock set has very light wear and scattered handling marks. Metal retains a large degree of factory rework finish with light wear. There are a number of small dents on the right side of the bbl. near the receiver. Very good, shiny bore, with sharp lands. (24-1415/RW). CURIO. $400-600.
