TUBE STOCK. Cal. 5.56mm. S# 162226. Bbl. 18" over flash hider. Beginning in the late 1970s, Valmet Oy of Finland began an aggressive marketing campaign of their automatic models to the world/export market. The M76 family of firearms was introduced at the Asian Defense Expo in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia & included several models chambered in 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm & even 7.62x51 NATO in numerous configurations. This example is chambered in 5.56x45mm & marked 223 REM as well. It has a unique tubular stock & bayonet attachment point at 6 o'clock on the flash hider. The receiver style is greatly influenced by the stamped Kalashnikov design which is obvious upon inspection. Piston driven rotating bolt design w/ unique black synthetic handguards & pistol grip. Sights are also generally similar to the AK guns but improved upon, where the front sight is a hooded post w/ a flip up night sight & the tangent style rear sight marked to 600m is a protected peep. Right side reciprocating charging handle & safety/selector. Exposed metal surfaces appear to be matte black parkerized. Black nylon sling. MAGS: 1 steel 30 rd. CONDITION: metal finish coverage is complete & consistent w/ some light marring typically associated w/ vertical rack storage. Thin line on receiver below safety/selector, which occurs almost immediately upon charging. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: Lifelong Collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-538/JZ). MODERN. $1,200-1,800.
