MODEL REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 183448. Bbl. 4". Single Action Army Sheriff's Model revolver mfg. by Colt in 1899. Bbl. is marked with Colt's 2-line address across the top. Left side of the frame exhibits a reapplied patent marking, followed by a reapplied encircled Rampant Colt logo. Frame, loading gate, and hammer exhibit a case color hardened finish. Bbl., cyl., trigger guard, and rear grip strap exhibit a blue finish, with the frame screws showing a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece poorly fit period replacement Colt checkered black hard rubber grips. Standard SAA pattern blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, trigger guard, rear grip strap, cyl., and bbl. Numbers appear to have either been reapplied or freshened, likely at the time of refurbishment. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 2 Colt factory letters, 1 dated December 30th, 1963 and the other January 20th, 1986. Letters collectively state "Serial Number: 183448/ Caliber: .45/c/ Barrel Length: 4"/ Finish: Blue/ Type of Stocks: Rubber/ Shipped To: J.S. Dunlay/ Address: Houston TX/ Date of Shipment: January 31, 1899/ Number of Same Type/ Guns in Shipment: 4". CONDITION: very good as professionally refurbished, with the frame, hammer, and loading gate retaining the vast majority of their case color hardened finish, showing scattered spots of pitting beneath the finish overall. Bbl., cyl., trigger guard, and rear grip strap retain the majority of their blue finish, showing scattered marks and some spots of light pitting beneath the bluing. Bore is bright, exhibiting some spots of dark mild surface oxidation and several streaks of moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing and wear, as well as scattered marks and impressions but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (25-4148/MLW).
