Cal. 58 RF. NSN. Bbl. 37 3/4". 5,000 Model 1861 Percussion muskets were converted at the Springfield Armory in 1865. Barleycorn front sight w/ single folding leaf rear sight. Upward pivoting breech block is released by thumb latch on right side. Rack & pinion ejector system. Springfield marked lock w/ 1865 date. 3 Band fastened walnut stock w/ no visible markings. Iron fittings include musket buttplate, trigger guard, bbl. bands, nose cap & tulip tip ramrod. Rear sling swivel is mounted on front of trigger guard bow. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: socket bayonet. CONDITION: bbl. & fittings have dark appearance that appears to be smoke related. Action & lock have dark blued appearance w/ same smoky coating. Stock has smoke darkened appearance showing numerous gouges, dents & handling marks. Ramrod is improperly inserted over the rear portion of the stock. Rear portion of bore retains strong rifling, front portion has dark corroded appearance that may be smoke related. (01-19515/DS). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
