SN. 72571. Cal. 45ACP. Springfield Armory made 25,767 pistols between 1914-17, this example, with early short spur hammer, being THE FIRST PISTOL DELIVERED TO THE MILITARY! Well referenced/documented in the book U.S. Military Automatic Pistols, 1894-1920, by E. Scott Meadows on page 189, 193 and 194. The left side of the slide was marked with a reference to Colt’s patent address followed by a bold “SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / U.S.A.” The left frame was marked with” UNITED STATES PROPERTY” and an ordnance bomb just above the push button magazine release. The right side of the slide had the Springfield Eagle logo followed by “MODEL OF 1911. U. S. ARMY. On the right frame is SN: 72571. Fitted with checkered walnut panels having prominent diamond panels and a correct dual tone magazine folded over base with lanyard loop. Field stripping showed an “S” marked barrel, barrel bushing, slide stop, hammer, and firing pin stop. CONDITION: 99+% as professionally restored with flat planes and crisp lettering. Comparable condition grips and excellent original finish magazine. Dull bore with fouled grooves. Perfect manual mechanics.
