TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30 WCF (30-30). S# 572. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 55 takedown lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester during the first year of Model 55 production (1924), with only approx. 837 rifles produced that year. Left side of the bbl. exhibits markings stipulating the model and cal. designations, with Winchester's mfg. information marked on the right. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the receiver appearing to have been touched up at one time. Plain wood straight grip buttstock with flat grooved steel buttplate and forearm have been lightly sanded and revarnished. Lyman brass beaded blade front sight with U-notch rear sight. Half length takedown mag. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their blue finish, exhibiting scattered spots of light to mild pitting overall. Receiver exhibits scattered areas of wear and thinning, scattered spots of flaking, and some spots/areas of pitting. Lever exhibits consistent light surface oxidation. Mating face of bbl. exhibits a brown patina. Near mirror bore, exhibiting some spots of light to mild pitting towards the muzzle, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions beneath the varnish, with a crack present on the right side stemming from the toe. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection.
