TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF. S# 16416. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 1892 takedown lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1892.Top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/ -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.-", with "38 W.C.F." marked at the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1892./ -WINCHESTER-/ PAT.OCT.14.1884.", with the S# marked on the underside of the receiver. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall. Plain wood straight grip buttstock with crescent buttplate and plain wood forend. Full length mag. tube, with German silver blade front sight and V-notch semi-buck horn rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to pleasing gray and brown patinas, as well as scattered spots of mild surface oxidation overall. Bore exhibits moderate pitting, while retaining good rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions overall from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Buttstock exhibit a notable chip and crack at the toe.
