TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30 WCF.S# 1373. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 55 takedown lever action rifle, mfg. by Winchester during the very first year of production (1924). Left side of the bbl. is marked "-MODEL 55-", followed by the Winchester trademark logo and "-NICKEL STEEL-30 W.C.F.", with Winchester's mfg. information marked on the right side at the breech. Receiver, forend nosecap, and buttplate have been cleaned and are "in the white." Plain wood straight-grip buttstock and forend have been lightly sanded and revarnished at one time. Ramped Lyman brass beaded blade front sight with U-notch rear sight. Half-length mag. tube. CONDITION: receiver retains traces of its factory blue finish, with the balance exhibiting a gray patina with scattered handling marks and areas of mild age-related discoloration. Bbl. retains large amounts of its original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to a grayish brown patina, as well as scattered handling marks and light surface oxidation overall. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting while retaining strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions, as well as a few gouges, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (24-2072/MLW). CURIO. $500-800.
