PERCUSSION PISTOLS. 1) Unmarked Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer Single Shot Pistol. Cal. 36. S# 246. 4" partially octagon bbl. with bead front & U notch rear sight. Rounded iron action with center mounted hammer & spur trigger. Walnut square grips. Estimated production of 500, 1858-1865. CONDITION: metal has faded brown appearance. Refinished grips show handling marks. Dark moderately pitted bore retains intact rifling. 2) Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer Single Shot Pistol. Cal. 38. S# 183. 4 1/4" octagon to round bbl. Left bbl. flat "Allen & Wheelock" marked. Rounded frame with center mounted hammer &spur trigger. Walnut square butt grips. Ca. 1858-1865. CONDITION: cleaned bright metal shows spots of very light pitting. Grips show handling marks. Functioning mechanic. Bore retains good rifling showing spots of light pitting. 3) Allen & Thurber Bar Hammer Pistol. Cal. 38. S# 599. 5" cast steel, smooth bore, octagon to round bbl. with faceted transition. Scroll engraved round body action has a center mounted bar hammer. Left side of hammer is marked "ALLENS PATENT". Walnut bag style grips. CONDITION: faded gray metal shows light pitting. Grips show wear & darkening with dents. Right panel has crack thru the attachment screw area. Trigger return spring is collapsed. Front grip strap has a replaced screw. Side-plate screw shows distortion. Dark pitted smooth bore. 4) Allen & Wheelock Shotgun Hammer Pistol. Cal. 36. S# 399. Bbl. 3" octagon to round bbl. with faceted transition. Round body action with center mounted hammer that is slightly off-set for sighting. The "shotgun hammer" is named for a long neck resembling a double shotgun hammer. Walnut bag type grips. CONDITION: cleaned metal shows scattered pitting. Grips show wear & age darkening. Sound mechanics. Dark lightly pitted bore. 5) Allen & Wheelock Bar Hammer Pistol. Cal. 36. S# 765. 5" octagon to round bbl. with faceted transition. Round body action has a center mounted bar hammer. Left side of hammer has April 16, 1845 patent date. Walnut bag type grips. CONDITION: metal finish has faded to brown. Grips show finish wear & marks. Sound action. The bore retains sound rifling showing light pitting. (01-28879/DS). ALL ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
