MARKED T. KETLAND. Cal. 62. NSN. The 9" tapered round bbl. has military type turnings at rear and is stamped with Birmingham proofs and bbl. maker's mark. Flintlock with flat plate is mounted with serpentine cock, integral rounded pan, unbridled frizzen and feather spring with simple short spear finial. Lock is marked "T" "KETLAND" "& CO." (most likely Thomas working in Birmingham 1737-1816). Stock with capped bag grip extends to muzzle and is pinned to bbl. Brass furniture includes trigger guard with leaf finial, buttcap with short spur at rear, serpentine sideplate and oval crest plate. A hickory ramrod with sheet brass tip mounts through beaded brass pipe and matching thimble. A brass tack stamped "470" is on left side. A possible acceptance mark "VC" is at rear of left side panel. CONDITION: good. Iron parts cleaned to pewter gray over considerable pitting. Stock retains most of a very old, possibly original, oil finish with some scattered light marks. Brass is nicely toned. Very good bore has some scattered pitting. Lock will not hold at full cock. (01-20397/MGM). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
