PA. Cal. 60 smooth bore. NSN. Bbl. 34 1/2" oct. to rnd., stamped “J. FORD”. Overall length 49 1/2". Curly maple, lg. bore rifle w/ a flintlock stamped “J. FORD”. Bbl. is wedged to the stock. This gun would date to the 1830 period. CONDITION: buttplate & toeplate have been shortened where the shrinkage triangle had fallen off at the toe. Brass inlays have been added on each side around the middle bbl. wedge. It appears the “J. FORD” on the lockplate is a recent stamping. The “J. FORD” on the top flat of the bbl. is original. Lock screws are not original. Rear sight is missing. 6" Wood sliver missing along right hand side of bbl. at muzzle. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19538/RG). ANTIQUE. $800-1,500.
