PISTOL, K.L. Cal. 9mmP (9mm Luger). S# 1104. In 1937 Estonia placed an order for 5338 pistols for its military. Of those 2300 were marked "K.L." for issue to the Home Guard. Although the pistols were ordered without shoulder stocks, all were completed with a slotted frame. The pistol has a rear sight graduated from 50-500. The left side of the slide is marked with the usual FN address along with the reference to Browning's patent. The usual Belgian proofs are scattered on the left side of the slide, left side of the frame and on the exposed barrel hood that is also marked "CAL 9mmP". The right side of the slide and right side of the frame are marked with the full serial number that is repeated on the left (hidden) side of the barrel hood. A large "K.L." is above the slot on the backstrap. The pistol is fitted with wood checkered and bordered grips and a Pre-war High Power magazine with a phosphate body, aluminum follower, and blued split-tail floorplate. CONDITION: approximately 80-90% original rust blue with sharp edge wear, minor spotting, and thinning carried pistol after many years of service. Bright bore with sharp rifling. A correct manual mechanics. A scarce and well recognized military contract FN High Power that is seldom offered for sale in the United States. PROVENANCE: the Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-1625/LA). CURIO. $3,000-6,000.
