PISTOL. Cal. 7.65mm. S# 6329. Bbl. 3 7/8". The FN 1899 was Browning's first production pistol, a real "must" for every FN collector. Approx. 14,500 pistols were made between 1899-1901. This example is a typical standard production gun with a fixed front and groove rear sight, the latter coupled with a cocking indicator. The left side of the bbl. is marked with a single line address reflecting the mfg., location in Herstal, and Browning patent. The forward part of the left frame is marked with the FN logo and "BREVETE S.G.D.G.". Crown/N markings on the left side of the sight, slide, and frame. Fitted with a rotating safety, head a series of concentric rings. Detents, but no safety markings. The S# appears on the right side of the rear sight, bbl., and frame. Hard rubber grips with pistol/FN logo surmounting a checkered field. No lanyard ring. Bottom released unmarked mag. with 6-indicator holes and fixed floorplate. MAGS: 1 7-rd. CONDITION: VG with moderate wear and freckling as one would expect from a carry pistol that is now 125 years old. Comparable condition grips with surface smoothing, blunted checkering, but no cracks or losses. Bright bore, light oxidation, shallow rifling. Correct manual mechanics. John M. Browning's earliest production pistol, a nice find for any European collector or FN enthusiast. (25-3458/LMA). CURIO. $1,200-2,250.
