TYPE III MUSKET. Cal. 69. NSN. Bbl. 42" smooth bore. Band mounted blade front sight & graduated lead rear sight. Lock is fitted w/ Maynard tape primer feed. Rear of lock is marked "Remington's/Ilion, N.Y. / 1857/ U.S.". Remington Arms completed a contract for 20,000 Maynard primer locks & percussion bolsters supplying all to Frankfurt arsenal for installation on model 1816 muskets. 3 band fastened walnut stock w/ iron fittings. Left ear of stock has 2 partially visible cartouches. Button tipped iron ramrod. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: US marked triangular blade socket bayonet. Finish has faded to gray w/ scattered pitting. CONDITION: bbl. & action have faded to gray w/ pitting becoming heaviest in breech area. Some portions of bbl. have overspray of stock finish. Sanded refinished stock showing dents & marks w/ cracks & chips in lock & sideplate areas. Dark pitted bore. Sound lock. (01-24943/DS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
