CUTLASS. Classic Confederate Naval cutlass w/ "CSN" & fluted anchor cast in pommel. These cutlasses are known to have been made in Fredericksburg, Virginia at Catherine’s Furnace by Charles Wellford & delivered to Richmond as early as mid-1861 to individual Confederate vessels. 26-1/4" Overall w/ 20-7/8" dbl. edged blade. Cutlass is accompanied by well fit model 1840 US naval cutlass scabbard. CONDITION: very good overall. Blade is cleaned to bright showing typical forging flaws, pitted areas, small nicks to one cutting edge. Brass hilt cleaned, light to medium mustard patina. Scabbard is sound, w/ redyed areas where scuffed, burnished brass mounts & fits cutlass very well. (02-15434/JS). $3,000-4,000.
