LATE 19TH CENTURY.
A very attractive uniform in an extremely fine black wool. Collar and cuffs are red with gold bullion foliate decoration. There are 9 heavily gilded French eagle buttons down the front with 2 at the top of the tails. The top of the tails is also decorated in finely executed gold bullion. This beautiful tailcoat comes with a white cotton vest having 6 smaller versions of the coat buttons and there is also a similar wool vest with similar buttons. There are a black pair of pants with 1 1/2" wide gold bullion tape down the outside of each leg and a pair of similar white wool pants with the same bullion trim. The label in the back of the coat reads “Plocq.Freres 10. Rue du 29 Juillet Paris.” CONDITION: the coat shows light wear overall with notable mothing only at the right elbow. Cotton vest shows light wear. Wool vest has several moth tracks. Black pants show light overall wear. White pants have significant moth damage. (02-17882/BF). $800-1,300.
