Overall length: 26”. Blade length: 20 1/2". A nice example of a late 18th century or early 19th century French hunting sword. The blade has a 1 1/2" clipped point and a 6” false edge. The flat blade is engraved on one side with an arm & sword emanating from a cloud, the bust of a woman, and the man in the moon. The other side is engraved with a 6-pointed star and 2 other fanciful motifs. There is an engraved small brass counterguard showing floral decoration on both sides. Brass ferrule & pommel cap. Green arsenic dyed certifiably antique ivory grip with diagonal serrations. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina with a few scattered darker areas. Brass has a pleasing patina. Grip has one wear spot near the pommel, otherwise the green is mostly intact. (02-20032/BF). $600-900.
