MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 11mm Chassepot. S# 15325. Numbers match on bolt assembly & bbl. Bbl. 32 1/2". These needlefire rifles utilized a cloth or nitrated paper cartridge w/ an internal primer. The bolt is mfg. w/ a rubber seal for obduration purposes. Octagonal receiver is unmarked. Bbl. is marked on top right side over chamber "T.1867" & marked on the lower right side w/ "MI. E". Ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. Stud type front sight. Bayonet lug carried on right side of bbl. Straight bolt handle. Walnut stock. Forend retained by two bands. Bottom swivels. Buttstock has small wooden plug on the right side. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 22 3/4" fullered blade bayonet w/ ribbed brass grip. Blade is marked in script on back "MF d'armes de Chat.-Juin1874". Forward curving crossguard. Matching steel scabbard. Bayonet has bright blade & crossguard turning gray w/ scattered spots of oxidation. Brass grip has pleasing patina w/ moderate wear. Scabbard retains a large percentage of its original blue w/ small scratches & spots of light oxidation. CONDITION: stock has arsenal rework type finish w/ light wear, staining & handling marks. Small crack behind receiver tang. Metal has turned overall gray & patina w/ wear & areas of light oxidation w/ shallow pitting. Cleaning rod is not present. Needle in bolt is present. Bore is shiny w/ scattered light pitting & darkening grooves. (01-26082/RW). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
